Cereset vs. Neurofeedback: What's Actually Different?

If you’ve been exploring brain wellness, you may have come across both neurofeedback and Cereset®. Both can involve sensors, sound, and time in a comfortable chair. The details depend on the system, so it helps to ask what a provider actually offers.

Neurofeedback includes different approaches

Some traditional neurofeedback systems compare measured brain activity with a chosen target. Feedback — such as a game, sound, or screen — can help the participant practice changing that activity over repeated sessions.

Other neurofeedback approaches are passive. For example, NeurOptimal describes its system as providing feedback without a fixed target or conscious effort. It would be inaccurate to say that every kind of neurofeedback requires active practice or directs the brain toward an external target.

Cereset: your brain listens to itself

During Cereset, BrainEcho® technology translates measured brain activity into tones played through headphones. There are no exercises to complete; you recline in a comfortable chair and can close your eyes and rest. Cereset describes this sound feedback as a mirror for the brain. That description explains the intended approach, rather than guaranteeing how any one person will feel afterward.

What to ask a provider

  • The session. What system is used, and what will you do during a visit?
  • The plan. How many sessions are recommended, and how are they scheduled?
  • The evidence. What research applies to that specific system and program?
  • The cost. What is included, and what follow-up might cost extra?

Session counts vary by system, provider, and individual plan. A smaller number of appointments by itself does not establish better results.

How to decide

If you’re curious whether Cereset is a fit, that’s exactly what our $99 Introduction to Cereset offers time to learn more. The optional 50-minute visit includes an orientation, a baseline brain observation, your Personal Brain Index® (PBI®), and a recommended plan. Your Tech Coach explains the observation and answers your questions before you decide whether to continue.
